Why the Tricots Lello organic cotton line of products?

What is organic cotton?

Organic cotton is grown using methods and materials that have a low impact on the environment. Organic production systems replenish and maintain soil fertility, reduce the use of toxic and persistent pesticides and fertilizers, and build biologically diverse agriculture. Third-party certification organizations verify that organic producers use only methods and materials allowed in organic production. In addition, federal regulations prohibit the use of genetically engineered seed for organic farming. All cotton sold as organic in the United States must meet strict federal regulations covering how the cotton is grown.

Why organic cotton?

1. Protect the oceans from microfiber pollution

Conventional fibers used for clothing are usually combined with synthetics such as acrylic and polyester. During washing, these synthetics are released into our waterways, in the form of microfibers, threatening marine species and sensitive ecosystems.

2. Protect the livelihoods of cotton farmers

International organic cotton production standard promotes fair working conditions and remuneration for growers and reduce their exposure to toxic substances.

3. Conserve global water and energy resources

It takes 1,800 gallons of water to produce cotton for a pair of jeans. Organic cotton has a much lower environmental footprint. Production of organic cotton takes 71 percent less water and 62 percent less energy than production of conventional cotton.

4. Reduce your exposure to hazardous insecticides and pesticides

Organic cotton farmers use only organic fertilizers, herbicides and pest control treatment from plants, animals and minerals to prevent pests and diseases. This slashes your risk of health issues, while also protecting farmworkers and reducing environmental pollution.

5. Help keep the food supply chemical-free

Pest control treatments used for standard cotton production are entering the soil. Polluting the whole chain of agricultural products. Organic cotton growers help to keep soil pollution free thus protecting the entire local environmental system.

6. Reduce your exposure to harsh chemicals used in the cotton manufacturing process

A variety of toxic chemicals are used in the manufacture of conventional cotton clothing. Organic cotton products use only low-impact reactive dyes to get a lasting color.

7. Help provide better working conditions for cotton farmers

The conventional cotton industry has been linked to numerous human rights violations. Buying products made of organic cotton promotes fair remuneration policies and safer work conditions for cotton farmers.

8. Support regenerative agriculture

Responsible and sustainable organic cotton production provides a variety of environmental benefits, including reduced soil inputs such as synthetic fertilizers and pest treatment, decreased fertilizer runoff, lower field emissions and less irrigation.

9. Invest in your health!

Choosing products made with organic cotton gives you peace of mind by knowing that the items you wear, or use are nontoxic to you and the environment, and don’t contribute to human rights violations.

Growing Gorgeous Amaryllis Indoors

Amaryllis Amaryllis flowers are gorgeous, and they come at a perfect time of year — when our (some of us) gardens are sleeping! My neighbor has had his Amaryllis for about 10 years. Choose Kale for Winter Colour

Background Compared to its more succulent cousins like cabbage and broccoli, Kale is often regarded as a “coarse” vegetable, suitable only for the winter garden. How untrue! When to prune your flowers

Are you a garden hygienist? In my experience, most gardeners fall into two camps when it comes to autumn tidiness: complete clear-out merchants that leave nothing out of place; or the more relaxed, let-it-all-rot-down-naturally brigade. Me? I fall somewhere in the middle. I’ll tidy if there’s a good reason for it, but leave well alone if it’s just offending my […]
